Scandinavian Teak & Metal Figures

Scandinavian Teak & Metal Figures

These small figures were made in large numbers by many different companies and individuals.  The most famous is no doubt Kay Bojesen 1886-1958, whose Danish soldiers and monkeys are collected worldwide, but there were many others - Hans Bolling, famous for his Optimist and Pessimist figures and ducks, Kristian Vedel's birds (both designers work being produced by Torben Ørskov & Co). JV Orel's Zoo Line range (Made in Japan), Jacon Jensen's Vikings, the Laurids Lønborg and Skjøde companies, which had many artisans producing all sorts of figures.  Other names of note include Arne Basse, whose work sometimes had the Sveistrup marks. There are many with undocumented origins, but which are nonetheless full of typically Danish quirky humour!
