Johanna Greta (Hannie) Mein (Utrecht, 10 July 1933 – Vinkega, 14 February 2003) was a Dutch ceramist with a very distinct style. After finishing school, she worked at a pottery while attending evening classes at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. In 1969 Mein moved to Vinkega in the North of the Netherlands with her husband, where she ran a studio and showroom from their farmhouse called ‘het Bakhuis’. Mein produced mainly utility ware, but also some unique pieces. Her work is easily recognizable by the naïve style, often depicting stylised animal figures.
Mein was involved in the formation of the Stichting Keramisten Noord-Nederland in 1988. In 2003 she curated a retrospective exhibition at the Nationaal Vlechtmuseum in Noordwolde. Sadly she passed away a week before the opening.
