Francis Triay was born in Aubagne 20.1.1927, into a family of potters. His maternal grandparents had been potters in Italy and his paternal grandfather worked as a potter in Algeria. His father arrived in France in 1922, setting up his own studio in 1938. Francis Triay started his career in the family business in 1944. He worked in several studios in the South of France, producing a range of items with prehistoric decor. On his father's death in 1959, he took over the family business and created the Neolithic range with red glazed interiors. (A green range was also available) The range was produced until 1978 and was copied by several other factories. Francis Triay died 31 December 2013. He was a charming man, full of humour.
