Poët Laval (Pronounced Pwet!) and Dieuletfit (God made it in French!) are two villages situated in south easterrn France, not far from Montelimar and some 6 km from each other. They have long been involved in the production of pottery. Like the town of Vallauris in the Alpes Maritimes, there have always been many small studios and as the tendency in the past was simply to use the name of the village, it is nearly impossible to identify any particular potter. There continue to be a large number of potteries in both towns. (The most prominent studio potter in Dieulefit has been Jacques Pouchain, followed by his son Dominique and their work is usually signed. cf Jacques Pouchain in Designer section)
Some very attractive items were produced during the 50s and 60s, quality being fairly good and using white clay.
