Gerhard Dölz 1926-2007. He studied art under Toni Drinhausen and Heinz Boesemann and in 1956 he set up an artists collective in Thuringia with Gerda Körting and Karl Juettner, known as the Saalfelder Künstlergruppe. He later set up his own pottery workshop. In what was East Germany at the time, the shortage of glazes resulted in studio potters using a variety of techniques including, cutting, sgrafitto and unglazed pieces. The experimental and artistic nature of his work was continued when Dölz turned to painting.
