Mario Mesini (1918-2001) was born in Modena, Italy. He graduated in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin and started working in ceramics. He worked as a modeller for Lenci from 1949 to 1953 and for the ViBi factory (Vi from owner Giuseppe Vallini and Bi from Mario Brunetti) . Together with Brunetti he then opened the Ariel factory, later collaborating with the Lusso factory. Some of Mesini's work is quite distinctive. He produced a range of eliptical and space age forms. The image shown is from a blog by the potter's grandson (www.equilibriarte.net) which gives some idea of the shapes produced. Usually black and white with an iridescent glaze.
