Rene Baffert, Saint Amand

Born in 1925, René Baffert had worked at the factory of Michel Pointu.  He opened his own company in 1948 in Saint Amand,  just opposite the Pointu Studio.  Initially he worked in partnership with an ex-colleague André Dyonne.  They producd mostly utility items and porcelain for florists as well as animal figures for gardens.  They signed the items Bady - the first two letters of their surnames combined.  During the 70's René's son Eric joined the company and they began production of a range of stoneware, employing up to 10 staff.  The company closed in 1981.

Saint Amand en Puisaye is located in central France.  It was a renowned centre of pottery between the 14th and the 16th century and is also known for the pottery studio of Carries.  Jean-Joseph Marie Carriès (February 15, 1855 – July 1, 1894) was a French sculptor, ceramist, and miniaturist.
