Striking set of plates by this accomplished potter, born in 1910. He studied in Paris at the Ecole des Arts appliqués, then worked at the Sevres factory and in 1936 he opened his own studio. He produced mainly utility ware, winning a gold medal for his work at the International Exhibition in Brussels in 1958. He was President of the Union of French potters from 1951-1965.
These dishes were commissioned by Bloomingdales, New York. They are beautifully glazed with a sgraffito decoration.
Fully signed to the base. The two smaller dishes have an impressed mark.
Large Server is 16in (40cm) long. Large Bowl is 12in in diameter. The two smaller dishes are 7.75in in diameter.
